eFiction Publishing produces seven monthly magazines available exclusively online. eFiction represents the next evolution of short fiction magazines. It is short fiction for the digital age.
We hope you see the benefit of publishing with eFiction, and we thank you for your interest.
Rights
We want one month exclusivity for your story, as well as first publishing rights. So when your story runs in one of the magazines, from when the day the issue comes out for one month it cannot be up anywhere else online. After that one month exclusive period, you can republish the story elsewhere. Previously published work not accepted.
Story Selection
Stories are voted on by a peer committee of volunteer writers and readers. Editors make the final call using feedback from submissions readers.
Apply to join the committee of submissions readers. Joining gives you a vote on all stories submitted in the genre(s) of your choice. Submissions readers are allowed to submit their work.
Submissions that are declined are encouraged to be posted in The Workshop for feedback and resubmission. The Workshop is a closed group for eFiction writers (work posted there cannot by accessed by any person or program other than registered eFiction members). It uses Google Docs in combination with a point incentive system to promote high-quality, precise feedback. Apply to join The Workshop.
Compensation
Writers who contribute a piece of writing are entitled to a lifetime royalty on individual issues sales. The participating writers for each issue split 50% of individual issue sales revenue. So a month from the day the story is released, until the end of time, our system will track sales of issues your work(s) are in and have an account for you which will pay out automatically as soon as the total amount is $25. A royalty agreement will be included with acceptance letter.
We appreciate authors who proactively drive sales of their work through promotion and social media marketing.
Circulation
The magazines are up for subscription sale through Barnes and Noble and the website. eFiction Magazine alone is available for subscription sale through Amazon. Individual issues are sold everywhere ebooks are sold. Our current paid subscriber numbers for the new magazines are low, which means there is more opportunity for selling individual issues and for writers to convert new readers into new subscribers. eFiction Magazine, the most literary of the bunch, is in the Top 5 Best Rated Arts & Entertainment magazine in the Kindle store.
Formatting
Proper formatting puts your manuscript ahead of every poorly formatted piece when we first open it. The perfect submission has:
- Contact info in the top left.
- Word count in the top right.
- Title centered on the page with only name (or pen name) underneath.
- No special text characters.
- Standard serif font in about 12 point.
- Single spaced paragraphs. Use only double paragraphs or three stars (* * *) for scene changes.
- .RTF, .DOC, or .DOCX format.
Locate the magazine below that best fits your submission.

eFiction
Short fiction:
The category for stories that do not fit in any of the genre magazines. If your story is literary, or beyond categorization, this is the category for you. We accept fiction of every maturity level. Every story can find a place in our issues, though not always on the first try. Give us a shot. The worst that could happen is that you get some solid feedback from the staff.Book Reviews:
We publish book reviews of any genre and publisher. We ask that you not review your own work, for obvious reasons. Reviews that have context within the scope of the industry are preferred. We want reviews that will carry weight.
Special note for professional book reviewers, don't just publish your reviews on your blog. Publish them in eFiction as well. Our readers could be your readers. The reviews will not be published publicly, so don't worry about the duplicate content. Only subscribers will be able to read your reviews. This is great way to expand your audience. We prefer around 800-1000 words.
Serial Fiction:
Stories that are longer than what is generally printed in one issue of eFiction. We want stories that are episodic in nature, meaning that readers can follow the story issue-to-issue and enjoy the developing plot but at the same time a new reader can jump in at any episode and understand what is going on and enjoy the episode as it stands.
We request that you submit three or more episodes in one document. Writing a serial is a large commitment and we'd like to know that you are serious and can provide your work on time with quality storytelling.Poetry:
No limits. You have full and complete creative freedom to express yourself. If you are submitting more than one poem, please submit each seperately.

Accepted Document Types: doc, docx, txt, rtfContribute »eHorror
Do you remember the first time you were ever truly frightened in your life? We do, and we want to recreate that moment over and over in every issue of eHorror Magazine. We're looking for your best, scariest, and most disturbing fiction. From literary to pulp, we'll consider anything you have to offer, as long as it's well written.
Twinkly vampires and buff werewolves need not apply. We'll take traditional monster fiction as long as you make it stand out from the rest. If you give us gore, it better not be pointless. We're looking for great story telling from great story tellers, period.
Follow our submission guidelines. Anything that violates our guidelines will be rejected, unread.
Short stories: We want to read your tales of horror. Please, terrify us. Make us run home to mommy. Make us sleep with a night light on. Make us wet our beds and fear the monster in the closet. Give us your best, well written short fiction with the goal to scare, terrify, and thrill the reader. We love realistic horror (serial killers, mad scientists, rabid dogs, things like that), but we also enjoy vampire, zombie, monster, and good old fashioned ghost stories. Send your weird and creepy. If you're not sure it's horror, send it anyway. The worst that would happen is we tell you to resubmit it in a different category. Horror is a very broad genre. Scare us. We dare you.
For questions on a specific piece, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Poems: The shorter the better. You may submit as many poems as you like, but only one poem per submission. All forms welcome, but we strongly prefer free verse.
Book reviews: We prefer indie authors, but we're willing to read any well written reviews. Feel free to send us any reviews posted to your blog, or written specifically for magazine publication.
Interviews: Interviews with stars of horror films, horror themed TV shows, horror authors, etc.
Art: Mostly we're interested in cover art that is creepy and scary - not gross or violent.
We strongly recommend checking out our past issues to get an idea of what we like.
Simultaneous submissions encouraged, previously published work is okay. We accept submissions year round. If your piece has been previously published, please let us know where so we may provide proper attribution.
Guidelines for Submission
- Up to 7,500 words. Query for longer pieces. Pieces longer than 7,500 words without a query will be rejected, unread.
- Flash/Micro fiction okay.
- Novel excerpts are fine, so long as the excerpt can be a self-contained story.
- For serials, please contact us.
- Include word count and contact information in both the cover letter and the submission.
- No rough drafts. Improperly formatted work will be rejected, as will submissions requiring egregious amounts of edits.
- You may submit multiple pieces, but please make sure each submission is submitted separately.
Include a biography (in 3rd person) and a one sentence synopsis of your story in a cover letter. Your bio should be less than 200 words and include a listing of publications you've appeared in and/or books you've written, if applicable. This is your time to shine, so feel free to promote your Facebook page, your blog, or anything else you would like our readers to see. Submissions without a bio will be rejected, unread.
We are a small staff and we get a lot of submissions. Give us 12-16 weeks minimum to get back to you. Generally, the longer it sits in the hopper, the more likely we are to publish it. You are welcome to submit elsewhere while you're waiting. You may track your submission on Submittable. As much as we are able, if we reject a piece we try to provide some kind of constructive feedback as to why the piece wasn't a good fit, and we also offer you the option to place the piece in our online workshops, which are free to eFiction members.
We do not accept submissions as email attachments nor will we go to a website to view or read your work. If you are having difficulties with our submissions form, please contact us for alternative submission methods.
Please follow the guidelines and send us your best!Geoffrey K. Liu,
Managing Editor, eHorror.

Now accepting submissions for science fiction stories. We lean toward the scientifically accurate, but pulpy sci-fi is accepted as well. The more fantastic, imaginative, and unique; the better.
We also accept poetry, book reviews, and articles -- as long as they're scifi related, of course.

eFiction Fantasy is accepting submissions of short stories, serials, and poetry.
Fantasy is a pretty wide genre, and we're looking at all of it! This means that anything that might be considered fantasy, be it sword and sorcery, urban fantasy, or something different altogether, is encouraged in submissions. We're looking to both embrace the variety that is Fantasy while still acknowledging high-quality stories that feature rich worlds and complicated characters.
Be sure to tell us about yourself! Please include a short (200 word) biography within the cover letter portion of your submission.

We want your dark, explicit, compelling mysteries, thrillers and crime fiction. There is no comfort in these stories, no escape from unease. This is the stark and the cold. This is fiction at its bleakest.

Send us your short stories, poetry, book reviews, articles, interviews, and artwork.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Cover letter should include a third person bio of less than 100 words with any previous publication credits and a short sentence on how you fell in love with, stumbled upon, or otherwise came in contact with Steampunk.
We love new writers as well as established ones.
Short Stories
preferably 7,500 words or less (if it's bigger than that, it better rock our world! And yes, we have been known to accept work that is bigger than that.)We prefer shorter to longer, but if it grabs our attention and doesn't let go, we'll just have to read it all the way through.
And we are open for episodic or serial fiction, but please submit at least three pieces together so we know you are committed to the serial. Also each piece should stand alone as a short story. A reader should be able to step in to the story at any point and follow it. This doesn’t mean that you can’t have a larger plot that connects all the stories, but you shouldn’t depend on previous episodes to create the exposition.
No fan fiction!
Poetry
Including prose poetry and free verseOnce again shorter is better and please tell a story
Book Reviews
Obviously in the Steampunk genre. Please do not send us a review you have written for your own work. That's just poor form.Interviews
Please query first through the submission manager. Title your submission "Interview: [Name of Person to be Interviewed]"Articles
Scholarly to opinionated and everything in between. We’d prefer you keep it short, but if it’s still interesting after five pages, then you’ve hooked us anyway.Don’t rant–don’t ever rant. That’s just bothersome. We want clear and logical thought, not soap box speeches. Passionate, yes. But preaching to the choir won’t get you an acceptance.
We’re especially interested in steampunk combinations and ideas no one has thought of before.
Artwork
We are especially interested in cover art, but that doesn't mean we won't put illustrations in the magazine too.Accepted Document Types: doc, docx, txt, rtf, jpg, gif, tiff, pngContribute »ePoetry
ePoetry is not your typical poetry literary magazine. We don’t accept poems, we showcase poets. Five of them. Every month.
When you submit your work, we accept or reject of all of the poems submitted in that submission. If we accept your work, we interview you and allow you to place an ad for your book or blog, free of charge. Your interview will run alongside your poetry.
As writer’s ourselves, we know how hard it is to get your name out there. ePoetry wants to help you stand above the fray.
So, what are we looking for?
We are open to most kinds of poetry, but we are especially fond of free verse and Haiku, poetry that is accessible, not overly verbose nor self-aggrandizing. It’s okay to rhyme, but the rhymes better wow us. If we read the word “love” and the word “dove” in close proximity, we’re not going to be happy, and you’ll probably get a rejection notice from us. We don't put a lot of limitations on the kinds of poetry we accept, because all poetry and subjects have merit.
Compensation
In addition to a copy of the issue your work appears in, writers who contribute a piece of writing are entitled to a lifetime royalty on individual issues sales. The participating writers for each issue split 50% of individual issue sales revenue. So a month from the day the issue is released, until the end of time, our system will track sales of issues your poems are in and have an account for you which will pay out automatically as soon as the total amount is enough to send your way. A royalty agreement will be included with your acceptance letter.
In short, the more you share the magazine, the more people will see your work, and the more money you’ll earn.
Please follow the guidelines below before submitting.
We only accept submissions via Submittable (link below). Submissions sent as attachments will be deleted and links to your website will not be followed. If you want to see your work in ePoetry, use Submittable. If you’re having trouble with Submittable, please e mail us and we’ll look for an alternative.
Submit 3-5 poems in one document. Please use BOLD print to separate each poem, and begin each poem on its own page. Please do not send less than three poems or more than five (you may send up to ten Haiku), per submission. If you are not interested in submitting 3-5 poems, please submit your poem to one of our other genre magazines.
Be sure to send each submission formatted the way you want it to appear on the “printed” page in a 12 point, easy to read font. Also, unless it is absolutely necessary to the aesthetic of the poem, please do not center justify your work. Also, do not include photographs or art with your piece.
Please send work that has been proofread and edited. Submissions in need of a lot of editing will be rejected. If we accept your work, we will send you a proof for your approval prior to publication.
Single spaced, please.
On the first page of your submission, include your name, e mail address, a brief cover letter, and a listing of each poem included in the submission. A bio is not necessary. Improperly formatted submissions are likely to be rejected.
Submit as often as you’d like, but please note, there is a three issue break for authors. This is to ensure the diversity of the magazine.
Please make sure that the pieces you submit are not currently available on the internet. Blogs, online literary magazines, and public (i.e., not password protected) workshop groups count. Pieces published in a book or printed publications are okay, provided proper attribution is given to the first time publisher. That said, we are most interested in previously unpublished work. If we are the first to publish your work, please make note of that in future publications.
All of our rejection notices are personalized, usually with a bit of advice and an invitation to submit your work to our FREE private workshop. Because we personalize our rejections, please allow us at least three months to respond to your submission, and do not query before six months have passed. You can view your submission status on Submittable at any time. The longer you wait to hear from us, the more likely your work is going to be accepted.
Simultaneous submissions are fine, provided you let us know immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Please follow us on Twitter and Facebook.
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop us an e mail.

Submission Guidelines
We are looking for short stories, book/film reviews, serials, and relevant art.
Anything goes in our first issue. Spy thrillers, police dramas, wilderness survival or anything that revolves around action and adventure.
Short stories:
We aim to deliver stories of action and adventure in the spirit of the pulp magazines of yesteryear. We want stories that make the heart race, the blood pumping, the palms sweaty, and the adrenaline flowing. The title says it all: we want action!
Strong, believable characters and an engaging plot are a must. Please note that this is not a market for fantasy or sci-fi adventures. There are other magazines here at eFiction that covers those genres. Keep your stories down to earth.
Please do not send us rough drafts! Stories with a gross amount of spelling and/or grammatical errors will be rejected, unread, and sleeping with the fishes. Kapeesh?
Include a brief biography and a one sentence synopsis of your story in a cover letter. Your bio must be less than 200 words and be in the third person. Submissions without a bio will not be accepted.
Please include contact information in the body of the story itself and in the cover letter.
We accept stories up to 10,000 words. Anything longer than that will have to blow us away. Flash fiction is also acceptable.
Book/Film Reviews:
We are interested in reviews for old and new books and films relating to action and adventure.
Serials:
If you think you have an awesome set of episodic or serial adventure tales then send them our way! We would love to read them, but please submit at least three pieces together so we know you are committed to the serial.
Art:
We are interested in cover art for the mag.

eFiction Publishing has a new affilaite reward system for those helping to promote sales via the eFictionMag.com website store.
If accepted into the program, you will receive an affiliate link that will track those who use it to visit eFiction. For all sales generated by visitors through your link, you receive a 50% commission. That money comes out of the payment for the magazine, not the writers, so writers still receive full compensation. Visitors can use your link, check out the website, and not make a purchase for up to 90 days before your link expires.
So if you sell five issues at $3.99, you receive $10 deposited directly in your Paypal or sent via check to your house. If you sell five subscriptions, though, things get interesting. If you sell five subscriptions, you receive $5 / month, recurring; until the reader un-subscribes. We have a very low rate of un-subscribers from our promotional efforts. I don't have a specific number because it changes frequently, but it is below 7%.
We offer such a high commission because we believe that we are building a writing community first and foremost, and a business second. We want everyone in the community to benefit from the magazines. Readers get great stories, writers get royalties, and now our biggest fans, our promoters, can receive adequate compensation for their passion for eFiction.
Acceptance into the program will also grant you access to the affiliate group on eFictionMag.com where you can ask questions, discuss promotional techniques, and get advice.
Thank you for your consideration of the program. We look forward to meeting you and working together to promote eFiction.
