@Doug Lance – Suggestion. In the Profiles section, add a text field to link to one’s Amazon Author Page (or on other provider sites).
-
Doug Lance
That’s under the ”Other” tab.
-
Alan W Jankowski
I get the impression Doug does not necessarily want to link to author’s pages judging by the ads…I think the ads without links are a great idea btw, and I suggested something similar to someone who is starting up in pub…I used your e-Zine as a good example of a well-formatted e-pub btw…

Doug Lance
Thanks Alan! Somehow I missed this note.

@Doug Lance – Please visit this screenprint http://storytechnician.com/temp/efm/a-css-glitch-1.jpg . I did not take time to highlight the problem with a red box, but just look at the bottom of the page. That happens in the current version of Firefox and Chrome. I did not test in IE.

Doug Lance
Thanks Buck! The notification plugin we use is a big buggy. How does it look on your end now?
-
Buck
That fixed the bug. Now I get the entire window.

Just received a really, really gratifying review for ”Crazy About You,” from a former mental hospital patient: http://www.randyattwood.blogspot.com/
Would love to sell more books, but this is what it’s all about.
A reminder: I donate $1 of each sale of this book to the local folks to make the suicide hotline work in these parts.- 3 people like this.

@mammon Hey, man. Thanks for accepting the friend invite. I’m enjoying your story, ”Corporate Monsters.” I left a lot of comments on the manuscript. The story seems to have some real life and I’m eager to discover its underlying plot.

Oops, that last message was meant for someone else — the one about my uncle in Wisconsin.

I really appreciate you taking all the time you did to read over and leave all the helpful comments. It’s also good to know that you’re enjoying the story! Thanks again!

Hi everyone-
I’m new here, my name is Kelly. I’m a professional editor and proofreader based in Toledo, OH. I’m looking to build a solid clientele base, as well as help out published AND nonpublished authors. I don’t charge an initial reading fee, and my rates are very reasonable (I started this endeavor in order to help, not hurt!). Please…[Read more]

I started my editing aspirations as an MA student, as I helped to form and publish The Mill, the only literary magazine based out of the University of Toledo Press. I’ve edited drama manuscripts for individual clients, and done copyediting and/or proofreading at the professional academic level for five years now. I’ve had poetry published in…[Read more]

Kinda fun to see all the covers together. This is JPEG from microsoft publisher file that I use to print out on my color printer a 11 by 8.5 sheet of paper that folds easily into a brochure for shoeleather marketing: dropping off at coffee shops, etc. http://www.randyattwood.blogspot.com/

Randy Attwood
I wish I knew how.

You could use a link shortener on your page like http://bit.ly and track the visitors that way. Also, you could think about including a QR code for people with smartphones (here’s an easy generator http://qrcode.kaywa.com/).

Ever lose a novel? It’s a real kick in the gut.
-
Raven M Ridley
OUCH ! – no I’ve never lost a novel – I did accidently erase an entire scene (roughly three pages) and had to re-do it. As a writer who writes organically rewriting is very hard but I eventually was almost as happy with it as the first time.
I know I should back up my work more….think I’ll go by more thumb-drives now-
Raven M Ridley
also – very glad you did finally recover it

Back in 1995 I lost half of a first draft. I did not even know the difference between word and apple back then Poor computer tech saw how desperate I was that he tried to retrieve it all to no avail. Now whenever I finish a few paGES, EVEN A FEW PARAGRAPHS , i PRINT A HARD COPY AND SAVE IT in at least two places if not three. whoopps hit the cap…[Read more]

Me. too — I had a drive disaster in 2009, and the WIP was the only one I hadn’t backed up. I had to rewrite the whole thing from memory. Normally, it would have been a good exercise, but the result just never seemed to have the same spark, so it got shelved. Maybe someday…

Thats something very scary. I now am going to go save all my work on at least three different drives my mac, my thumb drive and my hard drive. I haven’t lost anything yet. I don’t think I even want a scare.
I’m glad you found it.-
Randy Attwood
And do a paper printout. Paper has been around a lot longer than electronic storage devices. Another easy back up is simply emailing to yourself the document.

On Amazon there are 23,403 vampire titles and 10,085 zombie titles. Wakee, wakee zombie writers.
-
Jeff Stoner
I’m sick to death of vampires and zombies (pun intended.) Those poor wights and ghasts….they never get any love.
-
M.T.
Seems like vampires & zombies are as popular as westerns were back in the 1960s.
-
Steven M Moore
I didn’t know the numbers were that high, but I’m not surprised. Fads are fads are fads…I stay away from them. Well, sure, my October story was zombie-esque, but it was really about covered bridges and classic Corvettes

I feel like if this came in hard cover, confetti would explode everywhere the first time you’d open it.

That’s funny. And, actually, when you get into the book there are several explosions of literary confetti.

Tax time. Any tax folks out there. I publish my books through my LLC and consider publishing as a business with associated expenses and revenues. What about free downloads. Can they be counted as an expense for advertising/promotions and can you deduct the lost revenue for each sale as the deduction?
-
Buck
”Can they [free books] be counted as an expense for advertising/promotions and can you deduct the lost revenue for each sale as the deduction?” No.
-
Randy Attwood
Drat! I hate such simple definitive answers. Especially when it wasn’t the one I wanted to hear.
-
-
Doug Lance
It would be awesome if they could!
-
Randy Attwood
Hmm..had an acquaintance who does HR Bloch tax work say ”of course, a no brainer.” Any other tax experts out there?
-
Jeffery M. Anderson
I have gotten the same advice from an HR Block preparer. She told me anything that is a legitimate expense in your business can be claimed. I buy the insurance policy every year, so, if she’s wrong, she’s on the hook for it.
