Hi everyone. Are there any Dramatica users here?
-
Buck posted an update in the group The Crew 1 month ago
@Doug Lance – Suggestion. In the Profiles section, add a text field to link to one’s Amazon Author Page (or on other provider sites).
-
Doug Lance
That’s under the ”Other” tab.
-
Alan W Jankowski
I get the impression Doug does not necessarily want to link to author’s pages judging by the ads…I think the ads without links are a great idea btw, and I suggested something similar to someone who is starting up in pub…I used your e-Zine as a good example of a well-formatted e-pub btw…

Thanks Alan! Somehow I missed this note.

@Doug Lance – Please visit this screenprint http://storytechnician.com/temp/efm/a-css-glitch-1.jpg . I did not take time to highlight the problem with a red box, but just look at the bottom of the page. That happens in the current version of Firefox and Chrome. I did not test in IE.

Thanks Buck! The notification plugin we use is a big buggy. How does it look on your end now?
-
Buck
That fixed the bug. Now I get the entire window.

@mammon Hey, man. Thanks for accepting the friend invite. I’m enjoying your story, ”Corporate Monsters.” I left a lot of comments on the manuscript. The story seems to have some real life and I’m eager to discover its underlying plot.

Oops, that last message was meant for someone else — the one about my uncle in Wisconsin.

I really appreciate you taking all the time you did to read over and leave all the helpful comments. It’s also good to know that you’re enjoying the story! Thanks again!

My pleasure. I’ve been asleep all day but look forward to getting back to ”Corporate Monsters.” The man-eating bug-man really has me interested.

Hi everyone-
I’m new here, my name is Kelly. I’m a professional editor and proofreader based in Toledo, OH. I’m looking to build a solid clientele base, as well as help out published AND nonpublished authors. I don’t charge an initial reading fee, and my rates are very reasonable (I started this endeavor in order to help, not hurt!). Please…[Read more]

I started my editing aspirations as an MA student, as I helped to form and publish The Mill, the only literary magazine based out of the University of Toledo Press. I’ve edited drama manuscripts for individual clients, and done copyediting and/or proofreading at the professional academic level for five years now. I’ve had poetry published in…[Read more]

Doug, what are your plans with respect to video and the issues? After my college semester ends (May 2012), I could provide video promotional reviews of some stories.
-
Doug Lance
There’s plans in the works to take eFiction fully multimedia with videos and audio recordings of the stories packaged up for tablets. Its maybe a year away, but definitely going to happen.

Doug, do you have a page set up for banners and link exchanges?
-
Doug Lance
What do you mean?
-
Buck
Apologies, I was using terms that are some 10 years old. I guess I mean Backlinks. Ed Dale covers it in Module 4 at http://challenge.co/training . Here’s the intro http://www.challenge.co/training/mod4/day1 . However, before you visit those links, a banner is a small graphic that advertises your site (sizes will vary) that others can freely copy,…[Read more]

Sorry I wasn’t clear. I know what the terms mean. I was wondering what you meant exactly for eFiction. A page where I make a bunch of different sized banners?

What books about writing have you found to be the most beneficial, the most influential in helping you write story?
-
Doug Lance
Method and Madness by Alice LaPlante is my writing tome of choice.
-
Buck
We share that in common! Method and Madness was released in two titles. M&M being hardcover, and ”The Making of a Story” in softcover. I have the softcover edition always within easy reach of my keyboard.
-
-
D.L. Marriott
On Writing by Stephen King. He can be very entertaining, even when he’s educating you.
-
Steven M Moore
I echo the Stephen King book, but Writer’s Digest has a whole series of books on writing sci-fi that are useful. I tend to find more up-to-date info in writing blogs, though.
-
Buck
I’ve read the Kindle version of On Writing, but for me Stephen King is… exceptional. For him, I make exceptions and purchase the audio versions of the books that he narrates. I love listening to him read his work because it allows me to feel a greater connection with his writing, and him. On Writing is a book I really enjoyed reading and…[Read more]

Personally, I haven’t been a big fan of books on writing. I read a couple in college, but I prefer reading other people’s stuff and trying to learn from it. “The Art of Subtext: Beyond Plot” by Charles Baxter (http://www.amazon.com/Art-Subtext-Beyond-Plot/dp/1555974732) is a great collection of essays in which Charles discusses the events that occur behind the story. While some stories can be enjoyed as nothing more than mindless fun (e.g. cookie cutter action-thriller-conspiracy crap), others can…[Read more]

I’ve noticed more authors posting under their real name that they write under a pen name, and then disclosing that pen name and find myself wondering “if your books appear under a pen name and you openly promote those books and that you are writing them with a pen name while using your real name, what’s the point?”
So my question to everyone…[Read more]

Phyllis (Maggie) Duncan
Because I write in a genre that has few women, I’ve considered using initials and a last name, but, then, I’m a feminist, so my real name it will be. I had a decent reputation as a non-fiction, technical writer under that name, and even though I’m not fond of my first name, I’m not changing horses yet.
-
Steven M Moore
They say hindsight is 20/20, but I truly regret not using a pen name for my writing. My name is just too common. Google Steven M. Moore or, even worse, Steve Moore. There’s a doctor, lawyer, physicist/mathematician (that used to be me), and an NFL player. There’s even a felon.
RE keeping it secret: I find it amusing how everyone tries to…[Read more]

I’m posting under my name but when my first book is done it will be under my abbreviated name. It’s easier on people to try to say than my whole name. Though I don’t think it’s that hard to say. Atiya…However a lifetime of having it massacred, tells me I should go with the nickname. So Tia it is.
-
D.L. Marriott
I used my initials because it sounded better, and most people massacre both the pronunciation and spelling of my name. Which I often find humorous; it’s only four letters after all. In hindsight, there turns out to be another author (non-fiction) by D.L. Marriott, and no Dody’s out there, so keeping my name might have been a better route. I’m…[Read more]

Hi Doug. If it’s within the scope of your vision of eFiction, I’d like to volunteer to teach an 8-week creative non-fiction (memoir) workshop here on eFictionMag.com. The magazine isn’t really targeted toward writers. It’s for people who like to read fiction. So I don’t think publishing articles about writing really fit within our scope right now. That said, I’d be happy to host your class for you.

Buck
That’s great, thank you. I need a couple weeks to continue with the review of Steve’s project, and then I’ll be ready to begin discussing how you want to go about implementing the workshop. Thanks.

Buck
Hi Doug. I’ve started to put together a beta testing area where you and other staff you appoint can review the material (and provide feedback if desired). It’s still going to be another couple weeks before I’m ready to go forward with this project, and thank you for considering it.

I would like to suggest adding some instructions on how to add social media links to the profile. Kindle’s lack of support to publishers (including self-published authors) has been like that since Kindle 1.0 (and I’m among those who paid almost $500 for that model, and Kindle 2).

One of the great things about how eFiction is set up is that people can volunteer to do whatever they like for the magazine. So wherever your strengths lie, be they in reading submissions or marketing or editing or whatever–just let know and I can get you set up!

Buck
Regarding story, my strength is in analysis (which will become evident from my comments on Steve’s work), followed by editing (that’s because I prefer analysis to editing), and then I have an array of Adobe skills (InCopy, InDesign, Photoshop). I do not want to work with code such as PHP, HTML, or CSS, (because it’s yucky), but will help test…[Read more]

Hi Buck
I know nothing of this Dramatica you speak of. Is it an excellent drug?
Hi Hossan, Hi Preston.
I’m afraid this may sound like a sales pitch, so please know that I’m ot an employee of Write Bros.
